Osamu Matsuo
Sasebo Project
¥6,600
Photographed on black-and-white film in 2017: the seventeen-year-olds the artist met in Sasebo, a port town on the western edge of Japan, and the tangled alleys particular to this town of slopes.
Sasebo is a shipbuilding town where the U.S. Navy is stationed and giant cranes stand in clusters. Yet the young people who linger in its nostalgic scenery leap free of time, transformed into seventeen-year-olds of some other place, some other day.
The fourth volume of the Sasebo Project, in which photographer Osamu Matsuo documents his hometown of Sasebo from a range of perspectives.
